The forest is under the protection of Lesza. She is looking after trees and caring for animals. She often changes her form. She can resemble old hazel, fly over treetops in the form of an owl, roam the coppice in the body of a bear, or hunt in the skin of a wolf.

Woe to those who offend the mighty spirit, harm nature, attack it with fire and an ax, for they will know the anger of the forest and Lesza’s fury.
